The thought of community service was a bore to me before I began my volunteer work. I dreaded starting my community service although I knew I had to do it. To my surprise it was not what I expected. Community service was not a painful experience; it was a very enjoyable and beneficial experience.

 

For my community service, we have 9 people as a group and we have chose the Ractar Orphanage as our project site. We want to help out the Ractar Orphanage because our plan is to make the childrens have a better place to put their personal things such as bicycles, board games and toys. So this come to a conclusion that we want to build a bicycle rack with shelf together at the site. Because it is located at outdoor, we decided to add on roofing as well as facade to avoid rain water coming in. This is a chance to help out my community and to get a hands on experience with my teammates together with the childrens there.

 

I took pleasure in how much I learned at Ractar Orphanage. We were doing construction so many tools were involved. On my first day I was unaware of the names of most tools. Learning the names and functions of each tool was exciting. Being a male, I felt more confident knowing these things. Construction involves math and clever thinking as well. On my first day I just watched as the processes took place. Eventually, I was helping make the decisions. The education about construction will benefit me for the rest of my life.

 

I feel motivated to do activities that have to do with people. I particularly like younger children, but I am a people person, so anything that I can connect with helps me enjoy doing things. Helping out with children is a must, because later on in life I am going to design space in childrens scale as an architect.

 

As far as giving a project a chance to get acknowledged by the customer, is the point at which we understand the hardship to fulfill somebody, later on when we turn out to work, particularly in the field of design.
